What type of text?
- all non-technical prose;
- school textbooks;
- advertising and promotional material, press releases, video scenarios,
training manuals, internal newsletters, prospectuses, magazine articles;
- literary works;
- tourism-related material: restaurant menus, brochures and corporate
promotional material for hotels, cruises, land developments, etc;
- web sites in general;
- technical texts with appropriate terminology support.
Deadlines?
Business hours are based on multi-hours, rather than 9-5. Urgent commissions
will be accepted, if time permits. However, I reserve this right mainly
for my regular clients. Normally, rush jobs attract a supplement.
Costs involved?
Tariffs vary depending on the technical or other nature of the texts
involved. Also, documents in PowerPoint or other non-word processing
programs, will attract additional fees, as will web sites (if the material
has to be retrieved first). Nevertheless, very competitive rates are
offered and these are available on a per job basis, on demand. Courier
costs, if any, are the responsibility of the client ordering the job.
Client list
For reasons of confidentiality, clients are not listed by name on the
site. However, information may be provided to individual enquirers,
by telephone or e-mail.
The following is a rundown of my current client list:
- one client in the aerospace industry;
- several translation bureaus in Montreal, Canada;
- a major Québec publisher;
- a Canadian publisher of school textbooks;
- private clients in the fields of entertainment, hospitality, tourism
and outdoor activities.

Essentially, proofreading is only carried out on a nearly-finished
text, which has been typeset (usually in QuarkExpress or similar). I
do not do a great deal of proofreading today as it is usually best done
on a hard copy and is therefore slower to handle (because it has to
be sent by courier; it may be faxed, but this is hardly desirable when
using colour-coded inscriptions). My tariff is $CDN50 an hour for proofreading.
Courier costs are the responsibility of the client ordering the job.

Bio notes
I have been in involved in writing and editing since the 1970s; translation
since the late 1980s. I have held positions as a researcher, as an editor
and as a managing editor. I have worked in the publishing field in Europe,
Australia and Canada. I have worked mainly as a freelance since 1990.
I have also published a monthly magazine.
My main work today is translation from French to English. I do continue
to offer services to several clients who require English text to be
revised and/or edited, and I occasionally accept commissions of this
kind. I do very little proofreading today.
