COMMENTS AND CRITICS

The confrontation between the carefully placed stripes and the self-absorbed figures create a tout, emotionally charged field...

“Canadian artist Gilles Boisvert has immortalize the people of South Florida by putting them on canvas. ”
KOCH Ruth, Sun-Tattler, Hollywood, Florida, May 18, 1985

“Boisvert adds a repeated and daring series of broad, painterly bands of red whose edges verge on lyriqual expressionism. The confrontation between the carefully placed stripes and the self-absorbed figures create a tout, emotionally charged field, a dynamic situation between man, his nature and the environnement…Grand blues makes an original, forceful statement worthy of museum possession… ”
SABBATH L., The Gazette, Montreal, March 2, 1985

“Boisvert delicate sense of composition unites the two elements into variations involving positive and negative uses of the photographic image… ”
KRISTWISER kay, Globe and Mail, Toronto, septembre 30, 1972

ABOUT PAINTING

Interaction of gestural expression and structure, apposition of gesture and laying out have marked the rythm of my artistic production aver the years.

In more than thirty years of artistic creation, gestural expression has been fundamental to my works; gesture actualized in spatial and pictorial exploration. Gestural expression was always present in my paintings from the very beginning; but it has evolved at the rythm of external influences, and also probably internal experiences.

Drawing inspiration from the influence of American action painting and from the Quebecois Automatistes, my reflection on the sense of gestural expression was interiorized and enriched by the study of Chinese and Japanese calligraphy artists. Spontaneity and instantaneity of pictorial gesture expanded towards forms of live expression, happenings, direct painting, events, with interaction from the public.

Interaction of gestural expression and structure, apposition of gesture and laying out have marked the rythm of my artistic production aver the years.

My actual work, rich of these experiences, is an exploratory approach between gestural expression and the world of computer art. It elaborates a new visual vocabulary to include these new tools.

ABOUT COMPUTER ART

Computer art has become one of their research and creation tools.

About computer art

Art is expression. Art is communication.
Computer science belongs to the information technology era.

Visual artists now have this new technological mean at their disposal. Computer art has become one of their research and creation tools. The cathodic screen is an art support in the same way as paper or canvas. These creation tools are disturbing to many artists and many facing the multiplicity and complexity of the means at their disposal are reluctant to use them. And for those who dare, too often, technology takes over the creative process. A balance has to be reached, the tool has to be tamed and the language has to be reinvented. Computer art is here to stay.

The artists can now use the most extraordinary means of circulation; the internet. What artist has not dreamed of displaying his work to the world. With INTERNET the entire planet is at his reach instantly.
